Hiya kids,

The sentiments expressed by all of you for We The Kids are really moving. As some of you have stated, the ability to express ourselves is very valuable. The earlier one learns, the better it is.
Self-articulation, as it were, is important in every interaction – be it with someone you meet just once in the street or in a shop, or with those you are going to be with all your life. It helps if one can state one’s ideas clearly. Everybody appreciates that – teachers, bosses, readers, whoever we may be addressing!
Of course, self-expression is not just in words – it is done through ideas, drawings, paintings, photographs, films, sports, academics, hobbies, et al. However, almost all these involve at one point or another, the use of words. Sportspersons, artists, dancers, musicians eventually write down their memoirs to be able to communicate to others all that they learned – to show the path they took in becoming evolved persons. One should continuously express oneself through one medium or the other when one is young. From time to time, assess what you have done – yourself and with the help of mentors. It will help you improve your technique. Once expression becomes effortless, there is no greater pleasure. And when you are grown up – what fun it will be to read what you had written years ago. Some of you may even grow up to become professional writers, and remember We The Kids as the first paper you wrote for!
Till next week, Aastha.

We The Kids

We are the kids,we are the world,
we are the point on which tomorrow is gonna whirl.
we are the next,we are the future,
we are true,soft,innocent creature.
we have the will,we have the strength,
we have the confidence which will never bend.
we have the spirit,we have the art,
we have the courage to make a new start.
we have the love,we know what is respect,
we have the wisdom of what to refuse and accept.
we have the skills,we are the possible,
we have the passion to do the impossible!
we have it all yet we don't know,
not aware of ourself,we are unable to show..
sometimes a little alone, sometimes feeling shy,
like a small bird who has feathers yet it fears to fly..
"WE THE KIDS" here offers us wings to soar high,
with our great hidden character,to fly on top of the sky!
our art, thinking, talent and our qualities it reveals,
to explore and discover our potential and let the whole world feel...
that we are the creators, the builders of tomorrow!
we are the fate! the face! the ace of tomorrow!
we are the preserver,we have to follow,
lets be together with "WE THE KIDS"....and save the tomorrow!

Time

By Shahid Ansari, Town's Inter College, Ballia
The one thing i will always want is "time".It runs so fast and i find it really difficult to hold it.The feeling that this particular moment will never come again in my life excites me.At the same time it always makes me feel nostalgic about it.We always fear of losing it.
It is such a great word also where meanings of the sentence make it a matter of concern.
"I don't have any time,i am very busy".
"You should invest your time in something productive".
We have got some time and that we are spending(just like money). Hey listen to me we spend time."Time is money".
But what is money? It is a medium of exchange between people for what they want.
So in short time is something we should spend for what we want.
So just for some time think before spending time.

Close the door, before I unholster that kiss

By Chaitali Sinha, XI, SJA
HBO just finished showing "Notting Hill" and like every romantic flick, it ended with a kiss.
Vulgar, we say. Extremely.
Yet, in this democratic and secular country, the easiest way to become a famous man is to broadcast a communist speech as "Next-gen" politician Varun Gandhi or Narendra Modi prove every other week. If a man displays affection towards his girlfriend/wife, the moral brigade may jump on him, calling it a "vile, vulgar display of passion" yet the same remain quiet when hate speeches are made. In today's Indian society and due to our mutilated culture, love in marriages and among people is an uncelebrated ritual, to the point where a hug almost evokes wolf-whistling and the celluloid romances remain merely that - celluloid. They remain larger than life, an almost ray of hope for the youth that perhaps things like love do exist. E. Segal's words that, "An argument is the true index of an interaction" rings extremely in the East for that remains the only index of interaction that has not been banned yet.
In a society where MTV sits right beside the khadi, a comparison between the East and the West is perhaps inevitable.
It is inevitable for us to ask why the wise men of our country villify love.
It is inevitable for us to ask why the wise men deny love yet accept hatred, in a supposedly 'spiritual' country.
On one hand, India runs on love when it decides to accept every tradition and religion to add a hue to it's world while on the other it's very leaders decide to reject love as a part of their policy.
Which face of India do we accept - and why?

This is the 50th issue of ‘WE THE KIDS’, I take this opportunity to congratulate the entire staff of the newspaper. After two weeks it will complete one year that too would be a big landmark.
Till now we have been reading very educative and interesting articles. I am very happy as once they made me their poster boy, and published a large photo of mine on the front page. I am very happy that I am also a part of ‘We the kids’ as many of my articles have got published; now it has become a very popular supplement among my friends too.
I also want to congratulate the members for starting the web site of this supplement so now we can read our articles online too! This supplement of Garwhal Post is very interesting and should never end. I have got to learn many new things such as about sports, cars, animals, our country, etc. I wait eagerly for Friday to come. In fact WE THE KIDS should come at least twice a week.
Some times due to pressure of studies and exams I am unable to contribute any article, and I feel bad about it.
I wish ‘We the kids’ lots of success!

TISB, BANGALORE

Maybe just a number But it means that one is still golden
Going as strong as thunder! It takes some time
To climb From no recognition Into every person’s mind.
Starting small Having belief in oneself, ‘We the Kids’
Worked its way through problems all.
Tapping abundant talent They move forward,
But the trick to it was Getting us to write.
An opinion is just a way Every person thinks,
And bringing it through Is a very important thing.
So, thank you ‘We the Kids’ For giving us this chance
To participate with you In this intellectual dance!!

What it takes to speak the truth?...

By Shahid Ansari, Town's Inter College, Ballia

I feel that truth is a mirror in which we see ourselves. If we want to see ourselves clearly in the mirror we should bare our mind and soul by speaking or rather by accepting the present situation. Our personality gives the first impression to others but it is our character which leaves a long lasting impression. Nowdays there is so much emphasis on personality development and less focus on character building which was the main focus area in previous times.
"Osho once said that i am like a mirror if you will come to me you will only see yourself so in order to see me you need to be like the mirror." But is it really tough to be like that?...
I feel it is tough but not impossible. If you draw a staright line you can draw it perfectly straight without using anything if it is a small line. But if the length of the line is big there is a possibility that you will draw a zigzag line.
So to draw a straight line of our life we need support.Support in the form of guidance from our elders, education which emphasises on character building rather than making us money hungry pigs. But why truth?
Because truth is the building block of any process. If you are not true to yourself, you will not do justice with your own thoughts.
Truth brings in us a discipline which streamlines our actions and that can only lead us towards the path of success....

IIJS, INDIGO AND……..INTEGRITY!

Vimal Kapoor
On the happy occasion of 50th issue of our favourite newsletter I would like to narrate to my young readers a first hand account of a recent trip which has all the ingredients and adjectives that ‘We the kids’ has symbolized during last 50 weeks-‘Information’, ‘Integrity’ and ‘honest reporting’!
On 7th August 12, 2009, eight of us from jewelers fraternity of Doon Valley pushed off to Mumbai to attend ‘maha kumbh’ of jewellery known as IIJS (India’s International Jewellery Seminar), president of our association Mr. Vipin Berry was to join us at Mumbai as he had left earlier due to some work.
As our Kingfisher flight took off from IG airport New Delhi, there was buzz and enthusiasm amongst all of us as expectations were high. IIJS is a great way for Indian manufacturers to display the very best they have to offer. This show helps its participants to showcase their versatility in the trade and provides a unique opportunity to form winning partnerships around the world. Even though recession undoubtedly impaired the growth of this Industry for a while but now the market is witnessing a positive change. Hopefully with the expected boost that trade would receive after IIJS, Gem & Jewellery Industry would observe a remarkable improvement and establish its former glory." After sumptuous breakfast on flight with every red right from charming airhostesses dress to towels to even headphones, thanks to ‘Vijay Malaya- ‘King of good times"
We were received by Mr. Berry and immediately left for Goregaon in our AC coach, ready to invade the IIJS 2009. The IIJS 2009 spreads across a sprawling and vast area of huge propotions, as if our Doon Parade ground has been doubled up! There were more than 1500 stalls under jewellery, loose stones, machinery and allied segments. It also comprised of country pavilions of Dubai, Israel, Turkey, Thailand, and Belgium, Italy and others, apart from hosting various delegates. An average of 18000 visitors’ (International & Domestic) registered for the show. The five day long event which commenced on 6th August, 2009, ended on August 10, on a successful and positive note. IIJS is India’s largest, Asia’s 2nd largest and World’s 5th largest show.
After some local sightseeing and with every one in relaxed mood, we reached the ‘Chattarpati Shivaji airport’ on 11th and boarded our ‘Indigo airways’ flight back to Delhi, once the plane was amidst the clouds everyone was in a jovial mood as we were looking forward to being in Doon, but the real drama was still to unfold.
While the airhostess was serving soft drinks our companion Sunil sprang out of his seat and to our shock blurted out that during security check while the luggage was going through the scanner he forgot to collect his money belt in which was enclosed an astronomical amount of cash ending in many zeroes! Everyone was taken aback, we immediately called young airhostess ‘Priyanka kalra’, and she instantly understood the gravity of the situation but informed us that nothing could be done till we reached Delhi.
Those 90 minutes seemed like 90 months to us as every one came out with his version as to what was in store for us. Finally we touched down, and while the aircraft was still taxing Priyanka and crew members of Indigo immediately security check in Mumbai and to our sheer relief we were informed that money belt was found lying near the conveyor belt and was in possession of Indigo authorities, finally a smile came on Sunil’s face as we all shook his hand.
Here what is most commendable is the efficiency and integrity of ‘Indigo airways’, there are many people who could have resorted to lots of foul play for that kind of hard cash, but each and every penny was returned to us, honesty is not completely extinct, not yet. Indigo airways we applaud and thank you whole heartedly!
As the night train from ‘Hazrat Nizamuddin’ station sped towards Doon valley, that old saying- ‘All’s well that ends well’ kept repeating in my head.

Six ways to develop your sixth sense: Intuition

By Shreya Kumari ,(X-b),Army School Birpur
Men & Women, as biological beings, passess intuition. But this quality belongs to women more. This is because a woman’s perception is higher than her male counterpart & the unconscious mind of a women can notice changes in the environment.
Intuition speak to us in many ways. It is up to us to listen to our own inner voice, to comprehend the signals. They may occur in dreams as can be delivered by something as someone else. Intuition absorbs certain minute details in our life, we may never realize when this happens. The information that is collected is offered to us in required circumstances as situations arise. Intuition can be a strong feeling and is not supposed to be logical enough, some times.
This quality is embedded in our minds but we need to develop it. Here are some ways to develop intuition.
Eg: In Mahabharata, Sanjay had this six sense power
1 Meditate: this is the best way to develop our intuition. Our mind should be left totally blank while meditating we may think of some religious symbol.
2. Sense your Body’s energy – our bodies have energy fields that envelope each of us. These are called Auras- Auras are loops that surround us in various colours. Through intuition we can experience those loops which can tell a lot about such persons.
3. Visualize: The way to visualize is to make our mind wander. Visualization is just opposite of meditation. In meditation we have to control and force our mind to think blank. But in visualization we should not restrict our minds to what we should see or think. We just have to observe our emotion and speak out lour whatever images cross our mind.
4. Purify our life from unwanted emotions: A clean conscious is the first step to develop our intuition clean your life, assess it and free it from unwanted emotion.
5. Positively : Being positive helps us to down play excessive emotions such as fear. Anxiety and remorse.
6. Alertness: We may receive signals from our intuition through the signals may not be so clear. So be alert and prepared to receive them. Being sensitive to our surrounding and asking questions to our intuition helps and at the right time you’ll get the right answer.
We should believe in it and automatically it will get stronger and better. Just keep on testing its accuracy and just watch out the power of your inner self. Intuition power and the strange faculty that some people are presumed to possess. Known as " The Sixth Sense" are subjects that have always attracted a great deal of controversy. But now a day, many researches have been dome on this part and no all scientists and psychologists strongly believe that all persons have this quality embedded in their minds.
At last. I can only suggest that one should develop this sixth sense because it helps to lead a happy life.

My Favorite Scientist

By Minal sharma & Manisha Kothari,(IX)th, Rajiv Gandhi Navodaya Vidyalaya

Isaac Newton was born in wools Thorpe near Grantham, England. He is generally regarded as the most original and influential theorist in the history of science. He was born in a poor farming family. But he was not good in farming. He was sent to study at Cambridge university in 1661. In 1665 a plague broke out in Cambridge and so newton took a year off. It was during this year that the incident of the apple falling on him is said to have occurred. This incident prompted newton to explore the possibility of connecting gravity with the force that kept the moon in its orbit. This led him to moon in its orbit. This led him to the universal law of gravitation it is remarkable that many great scientists before him knew of gravity but failed to realize it.
Newton formulated the well known laws of motion. He worked on theories of light and color. He designed an astronomical observation Newton was also a great mathematician. He invented a new branch of math mastics, called calculus. He used it to that for objects outside a sphere of uniform density; the sphere behaves as if the whole of its mass in concentrated at its centre. Newton transformed the structure of Physical Science with his three laws of motion and the universal law of gravitation. as the keystone of the scientific revolution of the seventeenth centaury, newton’s work combined the contributions of Copernicus, kepler, cralileo, and others into a new powerful synthesis. It is remarkable that though the gravitational theory could not be verified at that time, there was hardly any doubt about its correctness’. This is because Newton based his theory on sound scientific reasoning and backed it with mathematics. This made the theory simple and elegant. These equalities are now recognized as essential requirements of a good scientific theory.

Congratulations, we the kids!

By Geetika Pal, (XII-A)
Convent of Jesus and Mary.
It’s a matter of great pride that today "We The Kids" is completing its 50th issue and on this pleasant moment I am very glad to have got the opportunity to dedicate this article in its honor
Months before "We The Kids" initiated by Aastha was started on a weekly basis every Friday "We The Kids" edition was distributed with the newspaper Garhwal Post which got its fame in a very short span of time. In the beginning "We the Kids" started with just two pages craving for contributions. But, today contributions are waiting to get printed on "We the Kids". Personally speaking I was not a writer in fact, I hated writing but it was due to the influence of "We the Kids" that I started writing. "We the Kids" helped me explore the hidden talent within me I started writing poetry too. "We The Kids" has not only been a source of inspiration for the non-writers but has also enhanced the writing ability of many writers WE THE KIDS has played a very major role in engrossing the interest for writing among people of all age groups. It also rewards efficient writers for their contributions which not only boosts their talent but also intensifies their zeal for writing.
The hard work put in by the members of WE THE KIDS has resulted in its success. I would like to render my heartfelt gratitude to WE THE KIDS and also congratulate the team members of this achievement. WE THE KIDS has come out to be a great success.

Love you, We The Kids!!

By Aishwarya Sharma
I have been asked to describe my experience with We the Kids on the issuance of its 50th edition this time. But to be very honest, I can’t really put it up together in words because it has truly been an enriching and inspiring experience of my life. Right from the pre commencement to the inception of this newsletter, to this very day, each moment has been so memorable, so enthralling for me, the most positive, and unforgettable facets of my life. This is WE THE KIDS!
As a team member, We the Kids is a little baby for me, right from the days when I was new to Garhwal Post, wherein I didn’t really define the kind of work I’m going to do here, and the day when the Editorial Coordinator, Aastha, my boss, and one of my very special and intimate friends put forth the idea and layout for me, I have learnt new lessons each day, even if they originated from negative experiences. For a starry eyed teenager like me, who’s so passionate for writing, I won’t really call myself a good writer, but I do have a passion and penchant for writing, this was the correct destination for me. I have never told anyone before what WE THE KIDS meant for me, but today, I’m indebted for the opportunity I got to work here, earn for the first time in my life, write with conviction, and improve on my skills. And I have received so much from here, without being qualified, leave alone not having a degree in hand, I didn’t even pass my class twelve, so I can’t even be a fresher!
Truly speaking, I have nurtured WE THE KIDS like my own child since the day the plan was given to me by Aastha, for whom, this enterprise was equally important, to the launch of its first issue on the 5th of September, 2008 to today, when my little baby is 50 weeks old!! Right from asking people to write, searching for new writing talent, inspiring the non writers to start writing, taking interviews, adding finishing touches and editing write-ups to enhance their presentation without making them lose their originality and preserving their ‘idiosyncrasies’, I couldn’t have done it without anyone’s support out here, especially Aastha and Shilpi, my two really close friends, and the two pillars on whom the newsletter stands.
And I have certain achievements to my credit; they are not related to my personal gains, but the kind of difference I made to others. So many people were actually inspired to start writing, because they saw me as a part of WE THE KIDS. This includes my friend Shahid Khan, my friend and a volunteer at Doon Youth Centre who has written really poignant articles, my own brother Sidharth Sharma, my friend, Shivangi Bansal, and many others who had undaunted faith in the paper, and believed that this paper truly reflects an atmosphere of candidness and camaraderie.
It’s really surprising how we came out of all the small and big struggles for the paper, whether it was the shortage of matter for accommodating in the paper, to the crunch of contributors, to all struggles we faced, all this, because all those guys, Aastha, Shilpi, Mishra Sir, Satish Sir, held our hands and helped us steer though victoriously through all obstacles with sheer ease and optimism.
Whether it was the rebuking, the feedback, or the appreciation, I’ve had a special person by my side, Aastha, who’s been like an elder sister to me, being my guide and philosopher in times of need. I shared all parts of my life with you, and found that you were actually the right person for this. Even your scolding was like the sweet words of encouragement you constantly supplied me with. And trust me, I’ve grown as a person, and as a team member in a tremendous way when I’ve been with you. The fights, the arguments, the love, the fun, everything is an integral part of my life. Thanks Aastha!
I had nothing to my credit before I came here, I was just another teenager, shattered, disappointed, disheartened, till I found a basis of my existence, a pillar to my identity, a platform for me to let my hair down. Truly, Aishwarya Sharma is just so incomplete without WE THE KIDS! I have over the times, written over so many issues concerning day to day life, and even the thought provoking issues in the global scenario. I have written it all. And the way my creativity, however limited it is, was adequately preserved and the realms of my imagination were let off like a free bird, flying away to glory and capturing new, astounding heights.
Today, when I’m not a part of the team because of my academic commitments, I miss the entire team, the kind of work we did, the formation and designing of the paper and all the activities related to the paper. I really thank everyone out there for being such a valuable source of encouragement and support for me, giving me immense love at all times. Thanks again to Satish Sir, Mishra Sir, and Aastha for blessing me with such a wonderful opportunity. This has been the most exhilarating and enchanting experience of my life. I express earnest gratitude from the deepest bottoms of my heart to all of you for endowing on me such a beautiful experience of a lifetime. Thanks for making my dreams come true,

We The Kids

50TH ISSUE OF SUCCESS

By: Vikramaditya Bhatnagar
Class 7, St. Joseph’s Academy
Hi! I’m studying in Class7th in St. Joseph’s Academy. I have one main hobby: books.
May it be reading or writing, I love books. I got my first set of encyclopedias when I was in the first standard. I started my first novel as ‘Secret Seven - Book 1’. Then I started the ‘Famous Five’, ‘The Five Find - Outers and Dog’, and as I grew up, I read comics such as ‘Archie’s’ and ‘Tintin’, and when I entered Class Six, I was introduced to the world of Harry Potter.
I started the first part (The Philosopher’s Stone) and as I moved from book to book, my love for Harry Potter grew. Now, I have completed all the parts and am a great big fan of Mrs. Rowling.
Just about a year ago, I started writing for my friends, to spread the art of reading, an art that is dying out. It was a monthly issue of a superhero that I had created on my own - Werewolf. Once, when he got bitten by a wolf, he got unnatural powers. He could morph into a wolf whenever he wished and got powers such as ultrasonic howl, razor claws, etc. Since I wrote on interleaf pages, I also made illustration to make it look livelier. My friends enjoyed the issues but I unfortunately could not continue with the idea because my classmates were given starring roles of all the characters and a boy playing a minor role wanted the main role. This led to an argument and I could no longer show the stories to my friends, but I kept writing for a long period of time at home. Even today I have first few issues. .My friends - quite a lot of them- have forgotten the argument, and they keep reading my Werewolf magazines .Even today, I write for them. Now I am interested to get this serial printed in some news paper, so that other children can read it too. I have made several illustrations of the different characters to make it more attractive. Maybe I will send it to Gharwal Post for the kids section.
In the summer holidays, I started writing for the Kids’ section –‘We the Kids’- in the newspaper, The Garhwal Post. I started stories at first, and later, I wrote my first article – an article on music. I and my sister also sent a few drawings. It is a good encouragement for children like me. I find it easier to express myself by putting my views across on a newspaper. And in the future, I plan to write on the social issues that bother me to make children aware of what’s going on in the world. I would also like to write about our environment (deforestation, global warming, etc.), animals, plants, Indian culture, and above all, the books I like to read.

Biodiversity

By Aparna Bhatt, (IX-A)
Rajiv Gandhi Navodaya Vidyalaya
Biodiversity means the diversity of life forms. It is a word commonly used to refer to the variety of life forms found in a particular region. Diverse life forms share the environment, and are affected by each other too. As a result a stable community of different species comes into evcistence. Humans have prayed their own part in recent times in changing the balance of such communities is affected by particular characteristics of land, water, and climate and so on. Rough estimates state that there are about ten million species on the planet, although we actually know only one or two millions of them. The worm and humid tropical regions of the earth, between the topic of concern and the topic of Capricorn, are rich the diversity of plant and animal life. This is called the region of mega diversity, of the biodiversity, of the planet more than half is concentrated in a few countries- brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Marico, Zaire, Madagascar, Australia, China, India, Indonesia and Malaysia.

I am so happy you gave us a chance to show our talent to the people of Doon. I am filled with joy whenever I see a story or a drawing done by my friends printed in the paper. I am grateful for the opportunity you gave us and encouraged us to write better.

Congratulations We the Kids!

Newspapers! Our morning begins by quickly reading the headlines and running off to school and then reading the paper again before going to bed. Each one finds material to his taste in the newspaper.
Businessmen find the pages listing share prices & wholesale rates; politicians get the news of their nation and of foreign countries; a common man learns about politics and the happenings around the world. Students interested in science learn about the researches, those interested in sports eagerly go through the sports news. Job seekers read the wanted columns and people express their views through the ‘Letters to the Editor’ columns.
We at John Martyn eagerly await the paper on Friday as ‘We the Kids’ is printed with the Garhwal Post on that day. It prints our essays, stories and the pictures drawn by us children. Seeing our names printed has encouraged us to write more and more. This has improved our English. We are very thankful and grateful to the paper. We wish you many happy returns of the day for your 50th issue.

Whenever we are enjoying a safe and happy moment with family we should remember the brave men who laid their lives to give us a happy life we should keep in mind the fact that we are free to roan any where just because there is someone who is guarding the borders. He is the Indian soldier Army, Indian Navy or Air Force but the emotions are the same in each case the soldier’s hair their awn. Life at the point of the gun. They face extra me situation an lilu the cold of Jammu & Admen. But still they don’t run from their duties. I have two of my uncles working in Indian army. And I devote this article to them.
The scène when they have their name for the battle field is worth watching. Even the tears of their children cannot stop them nobody is curtain that if he will see his children and family again. But they are determined to finish the enemy. Before going to battlefield every soldier writes a letter to his family and if by work of fate ne dies the letter is send to his name as his last cutter. They receiver mortyerdom leaving the family in tears. But their concern for the family is nothing against their concern for this motherland I salute the Indian soldier and his mother who darid to send her piece fo heart for the mother country. I salute his family and I salute every child at my country that has the same emotions for his country.

looks at a world where there is no sigh and cry a world, where he can give
a bold testament to his war cry a world where imagination is his motivation
and creativity is his illustration a world where there is no limit, says the sky
and where he is only to rise high and high. It is a new world of laughter
A new world of joy A place where one would never say Bye! Bye!
It is not only his play, Not only his day But a new born way
To show him true fame......
