By Kajal Himalion, (VII-A), Rajiv Gandhi Navodaya VidyalayaWhile all of us are inured to the habit of dwelling at length on the rural urban divide, we conveniently overlook the silent and steady changes in the country side brought about by science and technology since independence. We are so much obsessed with political somer saults like the rise and the fall of coalition governments, insurgencies of films, fashion and sports that we tend to by pass the changes in rural India. None can deny that technology indeed, triggered the Green Revolution that brought about the spectacular results in different fields of farming. Agriculture is one of the several fields where science and technology has had a tremendous impact about one-fourth of the technical grade pesticide production in India is based on CSIR technology set up in 1942. It has developed target specific pesticides and biological methods of pest control. Today, India is among the leading countries that has tapped renewable source of energy, particularly for the rural area, like solar energy, biomass and wind power.
