Today's Youth has speed but no direction!!

By Milan Joshi,XII, CJM

Two people look out of the window, one sees stars and the other sees bars;
Stars or bars, the choice is ours….
Last month, I heard two friends talking, "I’m joining the Lakshya Institute" and when asked why, she answered, "My best friend goes there and the institute will help me finish my syllabus quickly. So that I can have fun for the rest of my time"
Do you think this girl knows what she has to do in her life? Do you think she has a direction in her life? Do you think she has a goal to accomplish??
A famous quote says,
"Jack of all trades but master of none"
Today’s students lose out either under peer pressure or just a mere experiment- whether they can do a particular subject…
Do you think these students actually know what they have to do in order to achieve success??
Though good at something else, they will choose other difficult things which will barely be able to be managed by them. Same is the case with sports. Today, one is playing basketball, tomorrow, he/she might want to play cricket, and then after one month, he/she joins the football club. But will this lead him/her to any of the particular sports field??
A teenager might want fame, may want to be successful, and may do anything to attain it but when this urge is not channelized in the correct direction, what use is it??
A student after passing class X from science background with an average 70% might select sciences again in class XI. He may even finish his course on time, but when asked by someone what he has to achieve after passing class XII, he may probably say things like let’s see maybe medicine or engineering. And if I land up nowhere, I might switch over to commerce, there’s a lot of scope in commerce. [By the way, where did this scope go while he was selecting his subjects in the first place???]
A popular Indian magazine states that out of the thousands of students applying in for only a mere proportion goes in for further studies probably because they’re happy with the DU stamp on their pass certificates and are boastful of being DU students. What kind of goals do these students have???
we know of cases when girls of 19 or 20 years get married even before completing their education, without offence, it is my personal opinion that they just sit idly at home enjoying luxuries without having definite goals in life.
Let’s just realize our goals and move in meaningful directions, let’s not just look at our speedometers while missing out all our directions!!
