The curious case of cristiano ronaldo

By Rahul Kadian, (XI), RIMC
Why on earth would a person from funchel town In Portugal would think that a kid living a few blocks away, born on 5 feb 1985 to a normal parents, would one day become the FIFA world player of the year, and would grab the highest recorded transfer fee in football history! It all appears to be a dream – dream for the father who was a kitman for ronaldo’s club when he was 8, dream for the mother who had to shift to another city so that Ronaldo (at age of 11) could play soccer without being away from home, dream for the doctors who operated him for racing heart at the age of 15 – a disease which could potentially finish his career and dream for soccer fans all over the world as they saw the successor of legends like George best, Bryan Robson , Eric Cantona and David Beckhem for the Manchester united no.7 shirt. But (un) surprisingly, it’s all true……
It all began from a person named Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aviro and his love with football. He bagan kicking around at the age of 3 and at the age of 8, he was chosen for an amateur club named Andorinha. People say that he used to play on porch of his house for as long as 6 hours! 2 years later he was taken by CD nacional. At the age of 11, Cristiano Ronaldo’s fame had spread throughout Portugal. HE was later on signed by Portugese national club Sporting club de Portugal.
At the age of 18, on the inauguration of Estodio Jose Alvaledo tournament in Portugal, Sporting defeated United 3-1, courtesy- a brilliant game from Ronaldo. After the match the owner of Manchester United flew to Porugal in a private plane sign to Ronaldo. Thus, Cristiano Ronaldo was bought to Manchester united for £12.24 million in 2003.
Cristiano Ronaldo has a game of his own. His accurateshots, perfect ball control and blitzkrieg pace has made him one of the most dangerous players of the world. Though he is at his best at the Right wing, he is very useful at the left wing and at the center attack as well. In his normal he prefers to confers defenders from a standing start, then confounding them with a rapid medley of step-overs and short sprints. Recently he ahs been in comparison with Argentinean Lional messi, but people do not realize that their game are completely different-Messi is more of a ball controller and pefers to beat the defender by the ancient old trick of shoulder fake, unlike Ronaldo’s fast and furious game.
His premier league session in 2008-09 has been one of the best. In his 44 appreances, he has 8 assists and 42 goals (highest in the league). Not forgetting his winger duties, Ronaldo possesses a very high average of cross in per matches- 4.8 per match
Recently he has been in news for his legendry transfer to Real Madrid-£80 million with £5 million per year as a salary- making him one of the most expensive players of the world.
His glorious career include awards like FIFA pro young player (04,05), PFA fan player (06,07), Barclay’s player of the season (06,07), FIFA world player (08) and the Ballen’d’or(08).This list goes on & on & on and has much more to add to it. Though he is only 24, he is already the best player of the world. He has, maybe a ecade or more of football with him, club like Real Madrid , team mates like Cassilas, Raul, Kaka, Benzima and a very huge crowd support (84000 turned up for his inauguration at real Madrid!). Maybe we will see faster free kicks from him in the near future……..
